Elderly Medical Care Discussions| accessories wanted for power wheel chairs | | My husband finally got his power chair or motorized wheelchair. It was rather utilitarian, in that it was a loan from the health care of our government and it has to be returned when he dies or needs a different one. The trouble is that when we go shopping. I know there are probably baskets for the Jazzy, or other name brands, but I mean if one is in those motorized wheelchairs and picks up some groceries where can he put them?
Yesterday we went and bought a present for my son and his future bride for their wedding and it was heavy. It would be easier if there were baskets for the motorized wheelchairs. I know there are baskets for the walkers, but my husband cannot use the walker except for a few inches. So does anyone know if there are carryalls for motorized wheelchairs? I am talking about carrying heavier things home, such as things that would be heavy if you lugged them in a bag but not big enough to have delivered. Things such as mixmasters, small vaccum cleaners, coffee makers, small grills, etc. | |

With Jenny coming home fromthe hospital on Saturday we are finding just how difficult it is. Every room is small in our house. Even the bathroom is not very wheelchair addaptible. | | I don't know what to tell her... Help! | | Okay... I've been knowing this lady for some time now. She isn't so much a friend as she is an acquaintance, but I have helped her out from time to time. The other day I was helping her around the house. She really needs a wheelchair and I said something to her about having her doctor prescribe her a wheelchair. She tries to walk, but she just can't walk but a little bit and that is just to the bathroom and back using her walker. Anyway she told me something that is perplexing to me. She said she had one, but it got broke. She said she had it for many years and her Medicare was paying the fee for it. Well from what she says the wheelchair was supposed to be hers after 5 years, and that was a good 15 years ago she said.The thing she told me was that the company keeps dunning her for payments that the Medicare doesn't cover. She is afraid if she asks her doc for another wheelchair there will be questions about the one that is being paid for by Medicare that doesn't even exist anymore. From what she told me the seat gave out and she couldn't use it anymore she left it out on her porch out of the way for years. She said it got rusty and she had the junk men take it... | |
| | What it means to really care about your fellow man | | I just finished reading a news story about how Brad Blauser is making a difference to some of the children of Iraq. He is getting wheel chairs to children of various disabling diseases in Iraq. These children have been dragging themselves around after their friends. Some of them have had their parents carrying them every where. The chairs are made by prisoners at the South Dakota State Penitentiary and ultimately delivered in Iraq by the U.S. military. | | I couldn't believe this! | | I heard this on the radio today and I was so confused, and then kinda pissed.So this women had a broken leg, and a broken arm, she had a handicap sign on her dash so that she could park in the handicap spot. As she was hobbling to her car a policeman was watching her then he came over and gave her a ticket for parking in a handicap spot, even though she had a sign given to her by her doctor. I'm sorry but I think thats a bunch of BULLCR@P...they are perfectly fine and then go get shot up or blown up and they get rewarded for it? And I'm here born this way and the government is waiting for me to become worm food so they don't gotta pay for me....I get treated like sh*t from public aid, I will never be able to get a loan. But if your a soldier you get free crap all the time! You get discounts on vehicles, you get discounts on loans, you get first dibs on a job, you guys get all this sh*t for carrying a gun? And I get nothing for being in a wheel chair!
